Creative critical reflection: The song “Pink + White” by frank ocean is known by many to be a mixture of R&B and soul as it’s defined with a slower beat and unique use of sound. It was a very interesting song to work with as it had no previously existing music video, giving us freedom to to be creative and deliberate with our choice of representation.  One of the main themes being  portrayed is age and gender as they were both conventions we challenged. We portrayed age in an interesting yet significant way as we chose actors among our own age (16-17) to not only refer Frank ocean at a younger age as he reflects on his past but also to make it more appealing to our target audience between the ages of 16 - 30. Giving a visual representation the youth demographic, allowing us to make our music video more connected to Gen Z. Just as Frank Ocean has previously incorporated a split screen effect I have also decided to add this method to our music video of 'Pink + White'. So below are a couple of music videos where a split screen affect has been used. Pentatonix - 'Daft Punk' Pentatonix are an American Capella group from Texas who in often create music videos along with a split screen affect which allows all the singers to be portrayed in a certain way while also demonstrating their individual talent and what they each bring to the band. The interesting thing about how they do this is that throughout the entirety of this music video (Daft Punk) not one of the artists break their eye contact with the audience. Eye contact is a deep connection which suggests they are trying to maintain their viewers attention. Our music video will be about a girl who fell apart with her friend/s and has changed as a person because of it. Our video will be about 3 minutes and we will be filming in the city, preferably close to Queenstreet. We have chosen this location as it gives a good variety and represents how our main character feels lost in a crowd of people. We will also be filming in a park in the city, which can contrast with the bustling streets as it conveys a more peaceful atmosphere and serenity  which adds some good symbolism. . Our Music video will incorporate three main threads as well as being a mixed genre (Narrative and performance) which gives our target audience different directions to focus on. We are also going to try keep our shots and transitions smooth so that it goes along nicely with the rhythm of our song, However will keep all our sound Non diegetic.
